Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS)

Disaster Recovery as a Service is delivered through our partnership with IBM and is built on the Bluemix.net

cloud platform. We leverage the unique ability for IBM to deliver bare metal hardware in a cloud context

and utilise this capability to deliver a consistent experience through the VMware hypervisor.

SureSkills are proposing a managed solution to provide an effective and resilient platform for disaster recovery of individual systems, application stacks or the entire environment. This environment will be isolated to the needs of CLIENT to ensure data integrity and security. The solution will be monitored 24/7 and in the event of a serious outage and at the instruction of CLIENT the systems will be brought online to take over the operational roles provided in the production environment. This solution is delivered in partnership with IBM on their Bluemix platform. IBM Bluemix is a cloud platform as a service developed by IBM. It supports several programming languages and services as well as integrated DevOps to build, run, deploy and manage applications on the cloud.

The solution will replicate all of the production VM’s currently running in the CLIENT virtual environment to Bluemix IaaS with defined RPO’s and RTO’s matching their criticality to the business. The solution is built on a dedicated server running VMware vSphere connected to shared storage. All VM’s will be replicated to this shared storage along with a small number of rollback points, typically 5. These replicas would be brought live in the event of a system outage in the production facility. This platform will be enhanced by additional dedicated on-demand servers, for additional capacity during the DR event or test period. This additional capacity is only charged for the period it is in use.

Perimeter security will be provided by a managed firewall powered by Fortinet, delivering a VPN connection to the CLIENT production environment for data replication and access. Client access to this environment will require design and testing during the on boarding process. The cloud environment will be configured as an Active Directory site and have a minimum of one Domain Controller running to provide authentication and protection of the AD distributed database. Additional live systems can be deployed in the environment as needed on a permanent or temporary basis up to the capacity of the physical server. VM’s will be replicated using the VMware replication appliance and will copy quiesced or crash consistent copies depending on the source systems.
