Getting to grips with the ITIL 2018 update

SureSkills want to advise that AXELOS has announced at the itSMF USA Fusion 2017 conference that there is going to be a significant update to the ITIL 2011 framework. AXELOS’s CEO, Peter Hepworth explained that this refreshing update will focus on three main areas which include:

  • The core principles of quality service management
  • Practical guidance on how to use ITIL
  • How ITIL can be used in conjunction with DevOps, Agile and Lean

AXELOS have realised that the ITIL framework needs to evolve with the constantly changing and expanding business IT practices in service management. AXELOS’s Chief Product Officer Margo Leach explained at the conference, that agility is a considerable component of successful service management. Margo defined agility as “a business’s ability to respond to commercial threat, and respond to market demands and opportunities.” Agility has been a key word when discussing the update and has been the catalyst that influenced the new focus on ITIL’s partnership with DevOps, Agile and lean. The investment into this update has sparked a new found strength with employability in an agile industry.

A date for the new release has yet to be announced by AXELOS, but it will definitely be implemented before the end of 2018. AXELOS have guaranteed that the changeover period from the 2011 version to the 2018 version will have as little impact on daily operations as possible. Lastly, for current ITIL certificate holders, please note that this update will not tamper with your qualifications. Be sure to keep an eye out on our SureSkills blog for further updates.
