AWS Certification Skills Gap

Wow! Another highly successful AWSome Day event in Galway. These past few months have seen a series of presentations around the country co-hosted and co-presented by both SureSkills and AWS. If you missed any of them – they were run in Dublin, Cork, Belfast and Galway. I was amazed by the response in all 4 centres – in each location we were hard pushed to accommodate the number of interested people wanting to attend and learn more about the AWS Cloud.

Each event occupied the entire day, and each was full of technical presentations and information, and certainly not for the faint hearted! We even had quite a few delegates driving long distances from other areas to attend.

Not only was the level of interest astounding, but the number of companies actively using (or, who have already planned to use) AWS is much much larger than I had anticipated. Many of the questions from the floor were highly technical in nature and quite specific.

But, perhaps the largest surprise came from attendees wanting to know “How they could learn more, more about how to do things in and with AWS”. Many delegates desperately want to hire qualified people to assist in their migration and/or adoption of the AWS Cloud. The AWS Cloud is new to so many people and corporations, and right now AWS skills are in very short supply. Those few skilled people who have the expertise, knowledge (and an AWS accreditation behind their names) can virtually pick and choose from a huge variety of jobs and/or contracts.
